Mnuchin: US-UK trade deal possible by yearend

Washington DC (USA), Jan 26: US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has indicated it is possible for his country and Britain to conclude a trade deal by the end of the year.
Britain is expected to leave the European Union at the end of this month. London will then aim to reach free trade agreements with separate countries before the transition period ends on December 31.
On Saturday, Mnuchin said during a speech in London that he had a meeting with British finance minister Sajid Javid.
Mnuchin said US President Donald Trump had said Britain would be at the top of the list for trade negotiations.
He added Trump and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have a good relationship and that he is optimistic.
Mnuchin also said the United States is prepared to dedicate a lot of resources to making a trade deal.
It is widely seen as a tough task to strike a deal within less than a year. Attention is focused on what approach the US will take as Washington pursues an "America First" policy.
